China is a key destination for UAE residents – for business, trade fairs like the Canton Fair, and increasingly for tourism. Here is how the process works if you apply from the UAE.
Do you need a visa?
China has expanded visa-free entry significantly in the last two years. For example, UAE citizens can visit visa-free for up to 30 days, and nationals of several European and Gulf countries have visa-free access too. China also offers visa-free transit of up to 240 hours for eligible nationalities at designated airports – see our transit guide.

How to apply in the UAE
- Complete the online application form, print and sign it.
- Book an appointment at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (Dubai or Abu Dhabi).
- Submit your documents and give fingerprints in person (fingerprints are required for most applicants).
- Collect your passport once the visa is issued.
Processing time
Standard processing is usually around 4–7 working days after submission. Express service (around 2–3 working days) may be available for an extra fee. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before travel, especially before the Canton Fair seasons.
Documents UAE residents usually need
- Passport valid for at least 6 months with blank pages
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
- Completed application form and photo to Chinese specifications
- Round-trip flight booking and hotel reservations
- For M visa: invitation letter from the Chinese company or fair registration
- For family visits: invitation from the relative and proof of relationship
- Previous Chinese visas, if any

- Register with the fair early – your registration supports your business visa.
- Apply for your visa 4–6 weeks before the fair to avoid last-minute stress.
- Consider a multiple-entry business visa if you travel to China often.
