Schengen Visa Processing Time from the UAE: How Long Does It Really Take?
Official timelines vs real-life waits: how long Schengen visas take from the UAE, what slows them down, and a planning timeline so you travel on time.
"When will I get my passport back?" The official answer is 15 days – but the full journey from planning to passport collection is longer. Here's a realistic timeline.
The official rules
- Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel.
- The embassy normally decides within 15 calendar days.
- This can be extended to 45 days if additional checks or documents are needed.
A realistic end-to-end timeline
| Step | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Prepare documents (NOC, statements, bookings, insurance) | 3–7 days |
| Wait for an appointment | A few days to several weeks (longer before summer) |
| Embassy decision | About 15 days, sometimes longer |
| Passport return / collection | 1–3 working days |
Our rule of thumb: start 8 weeks before travel – 10–12 weeks for July and August.
What slows applications down?
- Peak seasons (spring for summer travel, before Eid and December)
- Missing or unclear documents
- Additional security checks for some nationalities
- Public holidays in the UAE and the destination country
How to track your application
