Schengen Visa Requirements for UAE Residents: Document Checklist (2026)
A clear, item-by-item Schengen document checklist for people living in the UAE – what each document is, what the embassy looks for and the mistakes that cause refusals.

Most Schengen refusals we see are not about the traveller – they are about the file. A missing page, a bank statement that does not add up or a hotel booking for the wrong dates is enough to get a "no". Use this checklist before you book your appointment.
1. Passport and UAE residence
- Passport: issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen Area, with at least 2 blank pages. Bring copies of previous visas.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID: most embassies want at least 3 months of validity after your return date. If yours expires soon, renew first.
2. Application form and photos
- The official application form (completed online or on paper, depending on the embassy) and signed.
- Two recent colour photos, 35 × 45 mm, white background, face clearly visible – no old or edited photos.
3. Proof of employment or business
- Employees: an employment letter or NOC on company letterhead showing your position, salary, joining date and approved leave dates, signed and stamped.
- Business owners: trade licence, memorandum of association (if available) and company bank statements.
- Dependants / spouses: the sponsor's documents plus marriage or birth certificate (attested if required).

4. Financial documents
The embassy wants to see that you can afford the trip and that your income is stable. Typically:
- Personal bank statements for the last 3–6 months, stamped by the bank or verifiable online
- Salary credits that match your employment letter
- A healthy closing balance for the length of your trip

5. Travel bookings
- Flight reservation: return itinerary matching your travel dates (you usually do not need to buy the ticket before the visa).
- Accommodation: hotel bookings or an invitation letter for every night of your stay.
- Itinerary: a simple day-by-day plan that matches your bookings.
6. Travel medical insurance
Mandatory for every Schengen application: minimum cover of €30,000, valid in all Schengen countries, covering emergency medical care, hospitalisation and repatriation for your full stay. See our insurance guide.
7. Cover letter
A one-page letter explaining who you are, why you are travelling, your dates and route, who pays for the trip and why you will return to the UAE. Keep it honest and consistent with your documents. Our cover letter template shows exactly what to write.
