Who needs a visa?
UAE citizens can visit Japan visa-free for short stays. Many nationalities living in the UAE – including Indian, Pakistani, Filipino and Egyptian passport holders – need a short-term visa. Check with our visa checker.
Two ways to apply

Processing time
For the VFS route, allow at least 8–10 working days after submission, and longer in peak seasons or if more documents are requested. Apply 4–6 weeks before travel.
Typical documents
- Passport valid for your whole stay, with blank pages
- UAE residence visa (valid beyond your return) and Emirates ID
- Visa application form and photo
- Flight reservation and hotel bookings
- Day-by-day itinerary
- Bank statements (usually last 3 months)
- Employment letter / NOC or trade licence
Tips for a smooth application
- Keep your itinerary realistic and consistent with your bookings.
- Apply well before cherry blossom (late March–April) and autumn peaks.
- Make sure your UAE residence remains valid after your return.
